The German University in Cairo (GUC) is an Egyptian private university founded by the presidential decree 27/2002, according to the law 101/1992 and its executive regulations 355/1996.

GUC has been established in cooperation with the State Universities of Ulm and  Stuttgart, under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Embassy in Cairo, the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the State University of Tübingen and the State University of Mannheim.

Currently, the GUC has over 10, 000 students studying at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Cairo and Berlin. The university has international offices in Berlin, Ulm, Stuttgart and Tübingen and agreements with various international universities and institutions.

Special agreements have been signed with the Federal Republic of Germany (State of Baden-Wuerttemberg) and the Government of Spain for fostering cooperation in academic studies and research.
